Essaouira is more than a seaside town. Its name carries an ancient memory:
the breath of the ocean, the protective enclosure of the walls, a safe haven for those arriving from the
open sea, and the deep roots of the Amazigh people who have inhabited these lands for millennia.
The name "Essaouira" comes from the Amazigh word suwwara, the enclosure, the shape, that which protects and
envelops. It is the name of a place shaped by human hands and the breath of the wind ,
a safe port at the meeting of sand, stone, and tide. But in practice, it means
something else: Essaouira invites you to land. And to breathe again.
Amazigh land, living memory
Long before becoming a port city, this region was the territory of the Haha,
Amazigh families who lived with the rhythm of the sea, the land, and the seasons.
Their language, Tachelhit, still resonates in the alleys, at the market, in the workshops
of artisans. Not as folklore, but as a living culture.
Here, some things are not learned, they are passed down.
• The relationship to the land is a relationship to the spirit.
• Craftsmanship is a prayer inscribed in the material.
• Hospitality is a silent recognition of human kinship.
Why Morocco Home begins in Essaouira
Morocco Home has not been "installed" here. It was born here, naturally, in the continuity of what was already present.
Our co-founder Hassna Absir was born and raised in Essaouira.
Her family descends from a lineage of fishermen and Amazigh artisans from this coast. The knowledge we support is a knowledge she carries from within.
Margot and Hassna met here — in February 2025. Not with the intention of creating
something, but in recognition of a shared calling:
to support Amazigh artisans, their families, and also the animals that share their lives —
dogs, cats, horses, donkeys — in a gesture of continuity and care.
That is why Morocco Home starts here. Not because we decided it,
but because the place itself made it possible.
What we are building
We do not work from the idea of "development". We work from honour. We collaborate with families and artisans who do not make objects,
they transmit a living memory.
Our role is simple: Honour the hand that shapes. Protect the dignity of craftsmanship. Let culture be itself.
This means:
• working in trust and equality
• respecting the rhythm of the place
• prioritising accuracy over speed
• building relationships, not operations
Morocco Home is not a brand about Morocco.
It is a return home to Morocco. A city guided by women and the wind.
In Essaouira, nothing is done by constraint. The city follows neither speed nor pressure.
It follows the wind.
And it is the women who maintain continuity:
• in weaving,
• in the home,
• in the care given to animals,
• in the silent transmission of meaning.
Their gesture is a bridge between the past and the future. This is where Morocco Home ⵣ takes root: not as a project, but as a living heritage.
Our invitation
We invite you to meet Essaouira as it breathes:
Not as a destination,
but as a relationship.
Not as a memory,
but as a presence.
Morocco Home
Born of the coast, shaped by hands,
in gratitude for the breath of this land. ⵣ
